Types of Fatigue - and Possibilities for Recharging

The first half of the year and the last spring...

The first half of the year and the last spring months are particularly intense periods in many workplaces. However, summer is usually a bit more relaxed and restful for most employees. One of the most important things we can do at this time is to regain our energy and recharge, as both are essential for maintaining our physical and mental health. So, what can we do to make sure we are truly recharged when we start the autumn months after our summer break?

Sleep and rest

It cannot be stressed enough that one of the most important things we can do to regain our energy is to provide our bodies with adequate amounts and quality of rest. Why is this so important? Sleep and rest helps to regenerate the body and mind, and contributes to reducing stress. After completing a difficult work project, do everything you can to really take the time to rest.

Types of Fatigue

It is common for many people that when the long-awaited freedom arrives and they can finally get some rest, it seems like they are unable to recharge - even if they sleep for 12 hours. What could be the problem then? Most of the time it is because we don't identify what kind of fatigue we are feeling, which 'tank' is running low.Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, a psychologist, listed the different types of fatigue and the corresponding recharging options in her book titled Sacred Rest - let's take a look at some of them.

Physical fatigue

Everyone is familiar with the state when we are so physically exhausted that all we want is a good sleep. Quality sleep is a passive form of physical recharge, however it is worth spending time on the active form as well, which can be any kind of regular exercise. Whether it is a walk, yoga, running - the important thing is to choose something we enjoy and really feel recharged afterwards.

Emotional exhaustion

If we notice that we are increasingly becoming impatient, frustrated, or even crying over things we didn't before, then we are probably emotionally exhausted, that is, our emotional tank is running low. What can we do?First of all, it is worth considering what emotions we are struggling with. Where could they come from? What can we do to process our difficult feelings and to bring more joy and positive feelings into our lives?

Mental fatigue and sensory overload

We can feel this form of fatigue most when we are overstimulated, when too many stimuli surround us and tire us out. We may feel that a lot of thoughts are swirling in our heads and we can't quiet them down. It is advisable to consciously quiet down and minimize the stimuli that surround us for a few days. Let's have digital detox days when we don't read the news, don't talk to anyone in the online space and don't answer emails immediately. Instead, let's read, listen to music and journaling can be a great way to relax.

Social fatigue

If we have to constantly interact with people in our work and there is a constant hustle and bustle around us, it can quickly deplete our social tank. No wonder if we feel the urge to ‘leave me alone for a few days’ and even don't feel like meeting those we usually like. If we can, let's take some time to be alone and do things we haven't had the opportunity to do for a while. If we can ‘curl up’ with a good book, even a few hours spent alone can be worth its weight in gold.

Spiritual fatigue

No matter how successful someone is in their work, there may come a time when they feel they don't fit in, their previous goals no longer feel like their own, and they haven't found new ones yet.At such times, it may be exactly what is needed to take some time for spiritual replenishment. It is worth looking for methods that help to quiet the mind and relax the body. Such can be meditation, yoga, or even a simple breathing exercise. These techniques help to bring harmony to oneself and create inner peace.

Let's make time for it

Rest and recharge time is essential for our health and well-being. Let's use the summer period for regeneration and renewal, so that we can start the next challenges prepared and fresh.
